Atlanta Public Schools has won the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for its 2009-2010 annual budget. Founded in 1910, ASBO International has nearly 6,000 school business management professionals as members. The association provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of educational resources.
The Meritorious Budget Award is conferred on school districts that have met or exceeded award program criteria regarding the development and presentation of district budgets. The district’s annual operating budget for FY2010 is $652.5 million.
Earlier this month, the district also won the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The award is considered the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting.
“We are very proud to have earned these financial achievement awards from two distinguished national organizations,” said Charles Burbridge, chief financial officer for Atlanta Public Schools. “I congratulate my staff and really everyone in the district for the significant national recognitions we have received in recent weeks for all of the hard work we do every day on behalf of our students.”
