RBC Bank acknowledges that Morningside Elementary teacher is pure Bliss

Morningside Elementary first-grade teacher Leigh Ann Bliss become the only APS teacher to be named one of 70 winners of RBC Bank‘s Tribute to Teachers Award. The award, which was given out after screening 700 applicants, is earned “[t]hrough their tireless dedication, exemplary leadership, and outstanding performance, they truly accomplish giant things — for our students, our schools and our communities,” according to the company’s Web site.

Bliss was one of only six teachers to represent the state of Georgia, and will receive a $500 cash prize.

“I am most honored to receive this award because the parents of the students nominated me. I have always been proud to tell others that I am a teacher for APS,” Bliss tells us. “I always view the students that I am fortunate enough to teach as whole people. I take notes on each child to see what he or she will need from me during our time together. The children and I conference as a group about the state of where we are in our learning. I invent games for them so that they will learn and have no idea that they are not only playing a game, but learning a concept.”

Indeed, the nominating letters were practically tear-inducing, we’ll let you read all of them here. But here’s a typical comment …

Ms. Bliss is one of the most beloved teachers at Morningside … a school of wonderful, caring, teachers. She is sought after by parents, current students and former students alike. She takes great care to prepare our children to excel academically, while spending the extra time needed to treat them as a whole child. Her fun and unexpected manner make each day an adventure! Just what both learning and childhood should be. My son loves her.
