SUCCESSful Annual Walk for Project GRAD, Communities in Schools and Hands on Atlanta

The purpose of the Annual Walk for Success is to provide information on the offerings of Project GRAD, and encourage students to sign covenants committing to high school graduation.

The Atlanta Public Schools Project GRAD program celebrated its 12th Annual Walk for Success on Saturday, September 17, 2011 with the collaboration and support of Communities in Schools of Atlanta (CISA), Project GRAD Atlanta, Inc. and Hands on Atlanta (HOA).

During the Walk, over three hundred volunteers participated in conducting visits to the homes of students from Booker T. Washington, New Schools at Carver and South Atlanta Educational Complex; in order to educate parents and ninth grade students about preparing to become college and career ready through the support and initiatives of Project GRAD.  Additionally, the Walk has traditionally represented an opportunity for GRAD high schools to acquire parental support for student’s efforts toward earning the $4,000 Dr. George W. Brumley, Jr.-Project GRAD Atlanta Scholarship.

We are thankful to the over 300 volunteers from CISA, Project GRAD APS/school staff, Hands on Atlanta and Project GRAD Atlanta, Inc. that helped to secure the signing of almost 200 covenants from our students and parents.

About the Annual Walk For Success
The purpose of the Annual Walk for Success is to provide information on the offerings of Project GRAD, and encourage students to sign covenants committing to high school graduation.  Signing the covenant is a confirmation by parents of their active involvement in their child’s educational success. The covenant also explains the details of the Project GRAD program and the resources available to students enrolled in Project GRAD schools, such as summer institutes on college campuses and the Project GRAD scholarship which gives students up to $4,000 towards their college tuition upon graduation from a Project GRAD school.  Learn more about Project GRAD

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!
