The Intown Academy and Alliance Française d’Atlanta will host Grammy-nominated R&B duo, Les Nubians, on campus Thursday, March 1from 10 a.m. to -11 a.m. The duo, composed of sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart from Paris, France, will meet with students from second to fifth grade and discuss their music.
Born to a French father and Cameroonian mother, the sisters grew up in Chad and France. They have become one of the most successful French-language musical groups in the United States, best known for their Billboard R&B ingle “Makeda” from their 1998 Grammynominated album Princesses Nubiennes (Virgin Records,France). Les Nubians were the 1999 Soul Train Lady of Soul Award winners for Best New Artist, Group or Duo and received two NAACP Image Award nominations in 2000. Les Nubians is on tour to promote their 2011release, Nü Revolution, and will be performing in Atlanta on Wednesday, February 29 at the 595 North Events Venue.
This is the second collaboration between Alliance Française d’Atlanta and The Intown Academy for French cultural outreach. Alliance Française brought French astronaut, Jean-François Clervoy, to the school in April 201 to meet middle school students and discuss space travel and working aboard the International Space Station.

The Intown Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that opened August 9, 2010 in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. The school embodies the diversity, creativity, and global and entrepreneurial character of the surrounding intown communities, and prepares students to live and work in a global economy.
