SECME’s mission is to prepare students to enter and complete post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); thus creating a diverse and globally competitive workforce. Each year SECME identifies science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities to improve student performance and outcomes in the form of competitions with a special emphasis on engineering design concepts. These activities are built into SECME programs throughout the school year culminating in Local, Regional and National Competitions.

Regional Competitions are coordinated and sponsored primarily by SECME member universities who work directly with one or more school systems in their state or region. All first place State/Regional competition winners compete in the National Competition Finals.
