Notice of Public Hearing – Humphries Elementary, F.L. Stanton Elementary, Thomasville Heights Elementary

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 16, 2012, and March 28, 2012, during which officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of Joseph W. Humphries Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will start at 6:30 p.m. at Humphries Elementary, located at 3029 Humphries Drive S.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30354.

Students living in the Humphries zone will be reassigned to the schools listed below. The school sizes as a result of the proposed closure and reassignment are also listed below.

  • Cleveland Avenue – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 437 students.
  • Dobbs Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 581 students.
  • Heritage Academy – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 593 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the Humphries facility. Humphries may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 26, 2012, and March 30, 2012, during which officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of Frank L. Stanton Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will start at 6:30 p.m. at F.L. Stanton Elementary, located at 1625 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30314.

Students living in the F.L. Stanton zone will be reassigned to the schools listed below. The school sizes as a result of the proposed closure and reassignment are also listed below.

  • Grove Park-Woodson Elementary – a merged school split between two campuses, one for K-2 and the other for grades 3-5 – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 1,047 students.
  • Peyton Forest Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 485 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the F.L. Stanton facility. F.L. Stanton may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.

 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 17, 2012, at  1 p.m. and March 20, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. Officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of Thomasville Heights Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will take place at Thomasville Heights Elementary, located at 1820 Henry Thomas Drive S.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30315.

Students living in the Thomasville Heights zone will be reassigned to Benteen Elementary, a K–5 school. As a result of the proposed closure and reassignment, Benteen Elementary is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 494 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the Thomasville Heights facility. Thomasville Heights may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.
