AT&T visits Grady to prevent students from texting while driving

by talkupaps

AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign celebrated the national “No Text on Board” day with Grady High School students on September 19th.  Atlanta area law enforcement and government officials, as well as AT&T employees visited Grady’s campus with a virtual texting and driving simulator, and presented an informational session. The simulator was a full sized vehicle with sensors that allowed the driver to use the steering wheel and pedal, with virtual reality goggles. The driver was instructed to send and receive text messages while driving on the simulator, and the driver’s performance was displayed on a monitor for the audience.

The purpose of this event is to expose teenagers to the dangers of texting while driving. 75% of teenagers testify in surveys that texting and driving is “common” among their friends. Speakers of this event included AT&T Georgia State President, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Miss Georgia Peach, who was hit and injured from a texting accident, and an AT&T employee who lost his son to a texting accident.
