Girl power was all the buzz at Hope-Hill Elementary School on Thursday, Oct. 11, as students observed the International Day of the Girl.
This first-ever event is led by Cool Girls Inc., an Atlanta-based nonprofit dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls. The girls were presented with a proclamation by City Councilman Kwanza Hall, which announced October 11, 2012 as the official Day of the Girl in the city of Atlanta.
Ebony Gamble, a Volunteer Coordinator for Cool Girls, Inc. Atlanta, says “It is important that our girls celebrate the day of girl because inequality to girls crosses all racial, economic and cultural lines. Change to these inequalities and social injustices also cross all of these as well.”
