Community members, employees, parents and students needed to help recruit next APS superintendent

by talkupaps

Atlanta Board of EducationParents, students, employees and community members can help recruit the next Atlanta Public Schools (APS) superintendent.  The APS superintendent search committee is providing two opportunities for stakeholders to weigh-in on what the district needs, and should look for in the next APS leader.

The APS superintendent survey solicits opinions about the most important skills and characteristics the next superintendent should have.  Anyone can participate in the five-question survey by visiting www.atlantapublicschools.us/supsurvey by June 24. Survey responses cannot be submitted after June 24, 2013.

The search committee will convene a meeting on Monday, June 24 at 5:00 p.m. to provide an update on the status of the superintendent search.  The meeting is open to the public.

Additionally, anyone seeking an up-close and personal opportunity to contribute to the superintendent search can attend the community meeting at 6:00 p.m. on  Monday, June 24.  Meeting attendees can ask questions and offer direct feedback regarding the profile of the next superintendent to the search committee members. Both meetings will be held in room one at the APS Center for Learning and Leadership, 130 Trinity Avenue, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30303.

The search committee  will use the survey responses and the information gathered at community meetings to help establish profile criteria for the next superintendent. Once the criteria are established, the committee will send them to the Atlanta Board of Education  (ABE) for review and approval. After the BOE approves the criteria, the committee will use the profile to attract and recruit potential candidates for the superintendent position; committee members will recommend three to five candidates for the ABE to consider.
Decisions regarding the next APS superintendent will impact the children of Atlanta and the future of the city.  The search committee urges community members, employees, parents and students to participate in the search process.

The next Superintendent should give APS teachers a pay raise. It’s been 5 years since teachers have received a pay increase. The cost of living has increased. Therefore, the teachers’ pay should increase. Teachers also have spend a large amount of their own money for classroom/student supplies.
