The Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School Lady Jaguars Track & Field Team captured the 2015 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class AAA State Championship title May 9, winning the first state title for the Lady Jaguars in the school’s history. This is also the first win for the school’s athletic program since the boys basketball team (formerly Southside High School Lasers) won the GHSA state title in 1990.

Presented by the Atlanta Track Club, the track meet was held May 7-9 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, GA. Eleven members of the Lady Jaguars team competed in the following events to capture the state title:
Garielle Netter – 3rd place, 100 meters; 5th place, 200 meters
Cortney Jones – 1st place, 100 meter hurdles; 4th place, 300 meter hurdles
Camilla Sims – 2nd place, shot put; 4th place, discus
Symone Sampson – 7th place, 100 meter hurdles
Kayla Jordan – 4th place, 400 meters; 10th place, 200 meters
Shyleah Catlin – 9th place, long jump
Kierra Thomas – 10th place, triple jump
Kayla Jordan, Cortney Jones, Jabrea Smith and Garielle Netter – 2nd place, 4×100 relay
Ziya Crawford, Jabrea Smith, Taryn Oniel and Kayla Jordan – 1st place, 4×400 relay
“I’m really proud of these girls,” said Maynard H. Jackson High School Lady Jaguars Track & Field Head Coach Russell Thomas. “They dedicated themselves to one goal and achieved it.”
