APS Kicks Off 2015-16 School Year with Back-to-School Bash July 25

WHAT:        The APS Back-to-School Bash is a one-stop shop for all incoming and returning APS students and their families   to learn about everything students will need for the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 5. More than 5,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies (while supplies last) will be given away during the event.logo__APS-BASH_2015plain

Photo Ops:  12 p.m. Frederick Douglass High School Drumline and other APS students will join Superintendent Carstarphen, Board Chairman English, and members of the Atlanta Board of Education for a festive welcome ceremony.

12:40 p.m. – 1 p.m. – Media interviews with Superintendent Carstarphen

Background: The Back-to-School Bash is the first time Atlanta Public Schools has presented a districtwide event focused on preparing students and their families for Day One—the first day of school. With the help of sponsors and 80 exhibitors, families will receive information about the district’s resources and services, afterschool programs, free books (while supplies last), health screenings, and much more. In addition, families are invited to participate in activities such as door prize drawings, Braves Around Town, Fox5 StormChaser, and to sample menu offerings for the upcoming school year from the Sodexo Food Truck. Admission is free for all APS families. Free shuttle bus transportation will be provided to and from the Bash at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. from the Oakland City MARTA Station, located at 1400 Lee St., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 and the following APS schools:

  • Carver High School, 55 McDonough Blvd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30315

  • Therrell High School, 3099 Panther Tr., SW, Atlanta, GA 30311
