Grady vs. North Atlanta at Philips Arena, South Atlanta vs. Greenforest Part of Big MLK Day

The Henry Grady, North Atlanta, and South Atlanta boys’ basketball teams will compete in high-profile games during the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend.

South Atlanta vs. Greenforest Christian Academy (Boys), Monday, Jan. 18, 1:25 p.m.  South Atlanta (13-4), ranked No. 3 in the AJC’s Class AAA Top 10 poll, will take on Greenforest Christian Academy of Decatur as part of the Blue Collar Basketball MLK Showcase at Peachtree Ridge High School. Greenforest Christian (16-1) is ranked No. 1 in the AJC Class A Top 10 poll. In spite of having less than 100 students, Greenforest has five players 6-foot-7-inches or taller. One of the team’s best players is junior guard Justin Forrest, whose father, James Forrest was Mr. Georgia Basketball in 1989 and 1990, when he starred for Maynard Jackson (formerly Southside High School).

Grady vs. North Atlanta (Boys), Monday, Jan. 18, 7:30 p.m.  Grady (16-1), ranked No. 2 in the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Class AAAA Top 10 poll, will face North Atlanta (5-10) in the Court of Dreams Game at Philips Arena, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  The game will follow the Atlanta Hawks’ game against the Orlando Magic. Grady is being led this season by senior guard Avi Toomer, who is averaging 26 points and 10 rebounds per game. He has verbally committed to Bucknell.
