Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Meria J. Carstarphen, Ed.D., was honored by Georgia Trend magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential Georgians” during a recognition luncheon today.
The magazine published its annual “100 Most Influential Georgians” list in the January 2016 issue. According to Georgia Trend, the honorees were selected because of their “enormous impact on the daily lives of Georgians.”
“Carstarphen is challenged with overhauling Atlanta’s public schools ahead of a potential state takeover of the lowest-performing schools,” read part of the statement printed in Georgia Trend regarding Dr. Carstarphen. “Under her watch, Atlanta Public School’s four-year graduation rate increased 12 percentage points from 2014 to 2015.”
