More than 100 second graders at Sarah Smith Elementary School were treated to a civics lesson by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed last week, as they gained insight about the importance of government, the responsibilities of a city mayor, and how preparation and hard work will help make them successful in life.
“You have to work hard in school and prepare, because preparation is very important,” said Reed, whose visit marked the culmination of a unit on government and leadership. “I know that your futures are very bright.”
During the visit, Reed shared his personal journey and gave students the opportunity to ask questions. They learned about his mayoral responsibilities, how much he enjoys meeting students, and the necessity of cooperating with other local and regional municipalities.
