From whole fruits to fish crackers, free healthy snacks are available this school year to Pre-kindergartners at Atlanta Public Schools (APS) .
In partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB) and “Home Plate Project,” the Atlanta Braves will donate $30,000 to provide healthy snacks across 17 Pre-K sites. Braves Pitcher Mark Melancon visited William M. Boyd Elementary School on Aug. 30 to deliver the good news.

“We are so excited about the partnership with the Atlanta Braves and how it’s going to support 17 sites along with our Head Start programs,” said Joi C. Kilpatrick, principal of Boyd Elementary School. “They’re going to give snacks to roughly 560 Pre-K babies every day. That’s about a $30,000 investment to the District. I’m so thankful that we were able to have a baseball player come out today, read with our kids and talk about the importance of healthy snacks.”
The initiative, “Home Plate Project,” is in partnership with Garth Brooks’ Teammates For Kids Foundation (TFK) and Big League Impact. “Home Plate Project” includes a league-wide $900,000 commitment, including $300,000 from MLB players, to help individual Club charities support local groups dedicated to fighting childhood hunger.
