The students from Benteen Elementary unanimously agreed that the Braves and Georgia Power hit it out of the park when they visited the school recently. Friday, Rafael Ortega and Julio Teheran from the Atlanta Braves joined forces with Georgia Power to kick off Hispanic Heritage month, which begins September 15.
Los Bravos Celebrating Nuestra presented by Georgia Power, aims to engage and educate Latino youth, through unique activations celebrating the contributions Latinos make to the game of baseball. As part of the visit, students engaged in an interactive electrical safety demonstration as well as learned the basics of baseball during the Braves Wiffle Ball Clinic.

Students rotated through a variety of sessions. Georgia Power presented its Learning Power curriculum on Energy Efficiency, teaching students valuable lessons to use at school and home. Students were also able to try their batting skills against All-Star Braves Pitcher Julio Teheran and perfect their hitting and catching skills with Rafael Ortega. “I am so excited to have the Braves at Benteen,” said Andrew Lovett, principal of Benteen Elementary. “It is a rare opportunity for our students to see accomplished stars that look like them.”
