APS is Buzzing Over Beecher Hills’ New $9.6M Beehive

“I just took a DNA test. Turns out I’m 100% intelligent,” sang the Bee Sharp Chorus to the tune of Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” at the official Beecher Hills Elementary School ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Oct. 30 event featured the talented chorus, Beecher Hills Dancing Dolls, and Beecher Hills Cheer Squad, and it also showcased the Mays Cluster’s new $9.6 million beehive!

Funded by the education special-purpose local-option sales tax (E-SPLOST) of 1% that voters approved in 2016, the renovation included the addition of a gymnatorium (gym + auditorium), as well as an updated computer lab, cafeteria and classrooms.

Beecher Hills Elementary School reopened in August after a yearlong renovation. The ribbon cutting ceremony included greetings from Superintendent Dr. Meria J. Carstarphen, District 5 Board Member Erika Y. Mitchell and Beecher Hills Principal Crystal Jones.

A true highlight was fifth grader Belle Williams, who had several quick wardrobe changes – as she performed in the dance routine, cheerleading presentation, chorus number, and she delivered remarks.
