Race2Read Reaches 5 Million Minutes

Happy International Women’s Day! On March 8, we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world. Some of our favorite female authors include Judy Blume, Raina Telgemeier, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas and Kelly Yang. Be sure to check out their influential and inspirational works and then head over to Race2Read.org to log your minutes.

Thus far, the Race2Read campaign has reached 5 million minutes!  That’s the equivalent of almost 10 years, and it’s halfway to our 10-million-minute goal!

Our top student readers for the month of February include students from South Atlanta and North Atlanta high schools, Brown, Bunche and Sutton middle schools, and Brandon, Deerwood, E. Rivers, and Smith elementary schools.

LaDazia Kates of South Atlanta High School, is a top reader for the month of February.

In culmination of National Read Across America Week, our top student readers and their families were invited to the Green Eggs & Ham Virtual Brunch with Chef Jasmine Stewart, winner of MasterChef Junior’s season 5. At the March 6 event, students read along with Jasmine, followed by a live cooking demonstration of green eggs and ham muffins. Students also received a copy of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham and an autographed copy of the Masterchef Cookbook.

Students, staff, and community, keep up the great work! And, as always, remember to log all of your leisure reading minutes at Race2Read.org.
