More than 300 parents, community members and APS employees packed the gymnasium of Inman Middle School on Monday to hear Superintendent Dr. Beverly L. Hall’s report on SRT-3 schools. Atlanta Board of Education members Emmett D. Johnson, Cecily Harsch-Kinnane (vice chair), Brenda Muhammad and Mark Riley were present.
The superintendent talked about the district’s work to position students on their journey to college, and she answered questions on topics ranging from testing to school closures. In addition, Dr. Hall shared SRT-3’s academic highlights, some of which are listed below:
* 90 percent of SRT-3 elementary schools have made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for the least three consecutive years, which means they are “distinguished” schools.
* Three elementary schools met their more rigorous APS targets for 2008-09: Hill-Hope, Mary Lin and Morningside.
* All three SRT-3 middle schools – Coan, Inman and King – made AYP and are distinguished.
* Inman Middle met 90 percent to 99 percent of its APS targets for 2008-09.
* Boasting a top graduation rate and award-winning academic programs, Grady High will open in August 2010 officially as a transformed campus of four small learning communities.
* This school year marks Maynard H. Jackson High‘s second as a transformed campus of three small learning communities; the school is top ranked by Business Week and U.S. News and World Report.
