Atlanta Public Schools will host its second round of APS School Closure Repurposing Committee meetings at Capitol View, Herndon and White elementary schools for the immediate community beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 to discuss how these facilities will be repurposed for educational and/or operational use.
Capitol View is located at 1442 Metropolitan Parkway, SW, Atlanta, GA 30310. Herndon Elementary is located at 350 Temple St., NW, Atlanta, GA 30314. White Elementary is located at 1890 Detroit Avenue, NW, Atlanta, GA 30317. Committee members from each school zone are invited to attend.
The APS School Closure Repurposing Committee is comprised of members of the community who reside or work within the surrounding neighborhood of each school, including neighborhood planning units (NPU), neighborhood associations, Atlanta City Council members, APS officials and members of the Atlanta Board of Education. The meetings are being facilitated by representatives from Atlanta Public Schools.
Over the past month, the respective communities have had an opportunity to provide input and bring forth more options for each building via their NPU, neighborhood association or school board members. In addition, Atlanta City Council members have held town hall meetings specifically to discuss the repurposing of the three sites. APS also encouraged community members to submit options that came in the interim to the district prior to June 28th.
