APS students return to school after rain causes massive flood damage, outages across metro Atlanta

Atlanta Public Schools has reopened its doors today, as metro Atlanta deals the the aftermath of massive flooding that caused an estimated $250 million in damage. The district decided to close schools after discovering flooding along bus routes, joining Carroll, Cobb, Douglass, Dekalb, Fulton and other districts.

Currently, all school activities are scheduled to resume, including Mays’ 8 p.m. football game against Douglas County High School on Sept. 25 at Lakewood Stadium.

While most of the damage and road closings are outside of 285, we ask that you please use caution. Also, check out a map of road closings on the AJC site.
