by talkupaps

Parents as Partners Academic Center swings open its doors on Tuesday (Nov. 30) for its Fall Open House, with the theme “Home Sweet Home.” Housed on the lower level of the complex that also hosts Kennedy Middle School and the executive offices at School Reform Team 1 (225 James P. Brawley Drive NW, Atlanta GA 30314), “PAPAC” provides a wide range of services for parents striving to support their children’s journey to excellence in Atlanta Public Schools. The Fall Open House will provide two sessions, at 10 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. (Download the calendar of upcoming events, currently updated through Dec. 8.)

PAPAC’s services include everything from information services that include a well-stocked library, computer and Internet use, and several tip-laden brochures to weekly and monthly events (during and after the work day).

There’s parent-support events like the male-focused “Just Dad” event held at the beginning of the month. Then there’s the budget-focused “Living on 70 Cents” event. The monthly “Parent Cafe” gives parents around the area a chance to socialize and share strategies. Then there’s the crucial “12 Steps to Effective Communication with Your Child.” There are also various support-group meeting to give parents a chance to gain a broader understanding of the challenges the face, and to remind one another that they’re not alone. (Check out this previous report on the first annual “Mother & Daughter Retreat” held this past spring.) As PAPAC’s family liaison Emily Holland has said, “This place isn’t just about workshops and open houses; we call it home.”

There also will be several vendors on hand with lots of information and services to provide. This is the can’t-miss event of the PAPAC season. For more infornation, call 404-802-3673 or email parentsaspartners@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

How is PAPAC funded? Tax payers? Title 1? Grant? AEF?
Did the APS BOE have to approve it? What is it’s budget? Thanks.
