On Thursday, January 31, a shooting occurred at Price Middle School. The incident was contained immediately by the assigned school resource officer. One student was injured and taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Because of the shooting, standard emergency procedures were implemented, including a hard lock-down of the school and a coordinated safety and security effort with the Atlanta Police Department. The crime is under investigation.
Today, Friday, February 1st, in addition to our regular staff members, the district has 15 crisis team members and 2 additional counselors assigned to Price Middle School. There is enhanced security and superintendent Erroll Davis is on site assessing the return of students to school.
Students deserve schools that are free of safety and security threats. Atlanta Public Schools will remain vigilant in identifying and addressing security risks that can compromise school safety.
