Did you know that Atlanta ranks as one of the top metro areas for new HIV/AIDS cases diagnosed?
Did you know that some of the highest-risk zip codes in the nation are home to thousands of APS students?
The facts are shocking so Atlanta Public Schools has decided to take action. APS will recognize World AIDS Awareness Day on Thursday, Dec. 1 in our schools and offices.
Elementary Schools
- Staff members will receive AIDS awareness information.
Middle/High Schools
- In middle and high schools, counselors, nurses and psychologists will conduct lunch-and-learn events for staff and students.
- Staff members have been trained to provide information and will have HIV facts brochures and AIDS awareness posters and stickers.
- The school community will receive information about the virus and can sign a pledge to live a healthy lifestyle.
- Staff and students will wear red.
Administrative Staff
- An AIDS awareness program will be held at the Center for Leadership and Learning. The program will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 in the CLL auditorium. The program will feature important messages from local AIDS activists about HIV/AIDS in our community.
- Staff will wear red.
- AIDS Testing will be available for staff.
