C-SPAN HBCU Tour Bus Makes Stop at Carver Early College High School

The C-SPAN HBCU tour bus brought the nation’s capitol to Atlanta recently when it made a special stop at Carver Early College High School, as dozen of students learned about the vast resources the cable network offers.

Filled with computers and state-of-the-art technology, the interactive tour bus was designed to showcase educational content available to students and others. While on the bus, students took quizzes to test their knowledge about the branches of government, watched videos and listened to news clips, and even learned that C-SPAN offers a mobile app and over 200,000 hours of content in its video library.

Introduced to the public in June 2010, the customized bus is a 45-foot Prevost coach that comes complete with laptop computers, cameras, flat-screen TVs, and free copies of the U.S. Constitution.

Jenae Green speaks with students about the valuable resources available through C-SPAN.

“We pride ourselves in having useful content for the classroom that is non-partisan and shows both sides of every issue,” said Jenae Green, a marketing representative for C-SPAN. “Students get information unfiltered. We also show all of our coverage live, gavel-to-gavel, with no interruptions and no commercials.”

The C-SPAN bus, which also stopped at Clark Atlanta University,  travels to high schools, middle schools, colleges and universities, and other events across the United States.

From the looks of it, the vehicle was a big hit among students like Corniyah Bradley.

“It’s nice,” said Corniyah, who is a senior. “I liked the technology, and it’s interactive.”

Senior Diamond Owens tested her knowledge about the three branches of government, while classmate James Lovelace praised the number of resources that C-SPAN offers.

“I  might watch the channel and use the website,” James said.

Green is delighted that students appreciate the information available to them.

“We love being in the community and being a resource for people to make their own decisions,” she said.
